Jacob, the Wise Snowman

Jacob Van Artevelde brought wealth and prosperity to Ghent. As a rebel leader, statesman and merchant, he circumvented the French ban on trading with England during the Hundred Years' War. Thanks to him, Ghent could resume the wool trade. Nowadays, his statue overlooks Vrijdagmarkt square, even if it is covered in snow.
